Database Storage Optimization with 11g New Features

Abstract:

Enterprise database is growing rapidly as more and more data are stored and processed. Database storage has become huge part of IT infrastructure spending. It is common nowadays that database storage is over allocated or database objects are fragmented in database environment. Optimizing database storage has been a major initiative in many organizations to reduce storage cost. This presentation will cover how to identify storage saving opportunity, e.g., identify fragmentations of tables, indexes and tablespaces, and provide guidelines to optimize storage with re-organizing, compressing, moving and shrinking, and so on. 11g new features on storage management such as advanced compressing  will also be discussed.

PeopleSoft EPM Warehouse Tuning Case Study: SQL Tuning And Performance Tuning of Batch Jobs.

Abstract:

The case studies focus on SQL (rewrite), fundamental, and partitions. It talks about composite indexes (unique), basic indexes(bitmap and functional), partition indexes (global and local). It also shows how to read the new "explain plan" using utlxplp.sql to identify performance issue, and find out root cause. The case study will let you rethink about physical i/o and logical i/o, and why logical i/o is what we should pay more attention to and what contributes to big LIO. The finding may surprise most people.
