"Trends in Database Administration and the changing role of the DBA"

Brief Description:

Databases keep getting bigger and bigger. Business applications that utilize these ever growing databases are expanding at an alarming rate. Businesses to stay competitive require additional functionality and technology. The Technology needed to make that additional functionality possible keeps getting more and more complex. To make matters even worse the DBAs needed to keep it all running are hard to find and retain and good DBA skills take years to acquire. Now the role of the DBA is fundamentally changing in a way it has not changed before. In this keynote, we will review the trends in database administration, how they are affecting the DBA, and why the future of Database Administration (if it is to stay relevant) is the vDBA.

Michael Corey, founder and CEO of Ntirety, is widely recognized as a leading authority on relational databases, remote database administration and data warehousing. Michael is recognized as an Oracle Ace by Oracle and a vExpert by VMware. He is a past president of the Independent Oracle Users Group, a founder of PASS (Professional Association for SQL Server), and he currently serves on the executive committee of the Massachusetts Robert H. Goddard Council for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
